The American Fire Equipment line of Dry Chemical systems have been in continuous worldwide use for over 33 years. American Fire Dry Chemical systems are unique in that they are "pre-pressurized," meaning they can be discharged immediately when required, without having to be "inverted" or "fluffed" like other systems on the market. Keeping the chemical under constant pressure with dry nitrogen gas ensures that it never gets "packed" or "caked." Another benefit our systems have over competition is the fact that the fire fighter can discharge dry chemical, stop discharge, and then discharge again as many times as necessary should the fire flare up again. These systems are designed and built around the harsh conditions they will experience offshore. All systems are completely self-contained, ready for immediate discharge, either automatic or manually. We coat every system with a 3 coat, marine grade paint system. It is not uncommon for this type of paint system to last well over 10 years offshore before needing re-coating. The standard size systems are 1,000, 1,500 and 2,500 pounds, but we also manufacture custom built systems to meet customer needs.
Following is a testament to the quality and durability of American Fire Equipment. In 1989, during an offshore drilling platform disaster in the North Sea, an offshore platform overturned and sank. Two (2) American Fire Equipment 2500 pound Nitrogen Propelled Dry Chemical Units were washed over to the bottom of the ocean. After staying submerged for approximately ninety (90) days, the two units were recovered and sent to the AFE plant for testing and recharging. Before any maintenance or cleaning was done, the units were tested and found to be in perfect order. They discharged properly and the only maintenance that was required was that the units be washed, recharged and returned to the customer.
We keep an inventory of completed systems, both new and refurbished, ready for immediate shipment. Most of our inventory is also available for rental. Refurbished systems offer the customer a cost savings, while still providing a system which is completely refurbished to "like new" condition. Please call for availability.
